E-CARB
ETS's E-CARB & E-CARB PLUS technology is based on our in depth knowledge in the field of physical and chemi-sorbtion, the two mechanisms by which activated carbon is able to remove contaminants and odour from the gas stream. Furthermore we understand the impact that moisture, temperature and humidity can have on the life and effectiveness of activated carbon allowing us to design an effective solution for different applications.
Working closely with our carbon supply partners we are able to recommend the most appropriate type of media for your application, whether it be for wastewater, industrial or a general odour complaint. Activated carbon has a particularly high surface area allowing it to physically adsorb at the molecular level. This is largely due to the distribution of Micro, Meso and Macro pores, where the bulk of the surface area is derived from the Micro and Meso pores.
Media selection is a critical part of designing an activated carbon system with varying base materials determining the different properties and adsorption characteristics:
Coconut based activated carbon exhibit a larger ratio of micro pores vs. meso and macro pores and are therefore highly suited to adsorption of smaller molecules.
Coal based activated carbon exhibit a larger ratio of meso pores vs. micro and macro pores and are therefore highly suited to adsorption of medium molecules.
Wood or Lignite based activated carbon exhibit a larger ratio of macro pores vs. micro and meso pores and are therefore highly suited to adsorption of larger molecules. (More suited to liquid based applications)
Activated Alumina is a non carbon based dry media which is only supplied impregnated with potassium permanganate (KMNO4) and is suitable for most gas phase applications.
Our range of media options include non-impregnated granular activated carbon (GAC) as well as several varieties of chemically impregnated pelleted activated carbon in both Coconut and Coal. Chemical impregnates include:

- Potassium Hydroxide (KOH)
- Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH)
- Potssium Iodide (KI)
- Potassium Permanganate (KMNO4)

In addition to these traditional types of carbons and impregnates we also offer High H2S adsorption carbon in both Coconut and Coal which H2S loading capacities greater than double that of traditional impregnated carbons. Furthermore these high capacity carbons are completely safe for disposal in either composting or landfill as they do not have the issue of high acidity that impregnated carbons exhibit when depleted.
